Welcome to Without a Word. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Without a Word application and services (collectively, the "Service") operated by Without A Word ("Company," "we," "us," or "our").
By accessing or using our Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you disagree with any part of the Terms, you may not access the Service.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years of age to use this Service. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you are at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you represent that you have your parent or guardian's permission to use the Service.
3. Account Registration
3.1 Account Creation
To access certain features, you must create an account by providing:
- A valid email address
- A password
- Optional username
3.2 Account Security
You are responsible for:
- Maintaining the confidentiality of your password
- All activities that occur under your account
- Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized use
3.3 Account Accuracy
You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to update such information to keep it accurate, current, and complete.
4. User Content
4.1 Your Content
"User Content" includes recipes you import, notes, collections, meal plans, shopping lists, and any other content you create or upload to the Service.
4.2 Ownership
You retain ownership of your User Content. By submitting User Content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, store, display, and process your content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you.
4.3 Content Responsibility
You are solely responsible for your User Content and represent that:
- You own or have the right to use the content
- The content does not infringe any third-party rights
- The content does not violate any laws
4.4 Recipe Imports
When you import recipes from third-party websites, you acknowledge that:
- The original recipe remains the intellectual property of its creator
- You are importing the recipe for personal, non-commercial use
- We are not responsible for the accuracy of imported content
5. Acceptable Use
You agree NOT to:
- Use the Service for any illegal purpose
- Share your account with others
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers
- Upload malicious code or content
- Scrape or collect data from the Service
- Use the Service for commercial purposes without permission
- Impersonate any person or entity
6. Service Availability
6.1 Availability
We strive to maintain Service availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control.
6.2 Modifications
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time without notice.
7. Third-Party Services
7.1 External Links
The Service may contain links to third-party websites (recipe sources, video platforms, etc.). We are not responsible for the content or practices of these external sites.
7.2 Third-Party APIs
We use third-party services including:
- Cloud infrastructure providers: For authentication, hosting, and data storage
- Recipe processing providers: For recipe parsing and extraction
- Product lookup providers: For barcode product lookup
Your use of the Service is also subject to these providers' terms.
8. Intellectual Property
8.1 Our Property
The Service, including its original content, features, and functionality, is owned by Without A Word and is protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
8.2 Trademarks
"Without a Word," our logo, and related marks are trademarks of Without A Word. You may not use these marks without our prior written consent.
9. Subscriptions and Billing
9.1 Plans
Without a Word has a free tier that stays available without a subscription. We also offer optional paid tiers: "Soft Presence" (billed monthly) and "Stillness" (billed yearly). The price, billing period, and features of each tier are shown on the Pricing screen before you buy.
9.2 Purchases in the iOS App
Subscriptions bought inside the iOS app are processed by Apple through In-App Purchase. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. Apple handles billing, renewal, cancellation, and refunds under its own terms, and we do not receive your payment details. To cancel, open Settings on your device, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com.
9.3 Purchases on the Web
Subscriptions bought on our website are billed by Stripe. You can cancel or change your plan from Profile → Subscription (Manage Subscription).
9.4 Automatic Renewal
Subscriptions renew automatically each period (monthly or yearly) at the price shown at purchase, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period. Cancelling stops future renewal. You keep access through the end of the period you already paid for.
A subscription must be managed with the service that billed it. An Apple subscription is cancelled in your Apple ID settings. A Stripe subscription is cancelled from Manage Subscription in the app or on our website. Cancelling one does not cancel the other.
9.5 Free Trials
The in-app trial lasts 14 days, needs no payment method, and never charges you. When it ends, your account returns to the free tier unless you choose to subscribe.
9.6 Price Changes
If we change a subscription price, we will tell you in advance as the law and the billing service require. A price change does not apply to a period you already paid for.
9.7 Refunds
Apple purchases are refunded by Apple under its policies. Web purchases are refunded per Stripe's policy and applicable local law, including EU and UK 14-day withdrawal rights where applicable.
9.8 Apple's Role
If you bought through Apple, these Terms are between you and Divine Dezynes Digital Solutions LLC, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, for maintenance or support, or for claims about the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms for App Store purchases, and Apple may enforce them against you. You must also follow Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions.
9.9 Cancelling vs. Deleting Your Account
Deleting your account does not, by itself, cancel a subscription that is still set to renew. If you have a subscription that is still set to renew, the account-deletion flow will ask you to cancel it first so you are not billed for a plan with no account behind it.

11. Account Termination
11.1 By You
You may delete your account at any time through the Profile settings. Upon deletion:
- Your User Content will be permanently deleted
- This action cannot be undone
11.2 By Us
We may terminate or suspend your account immediately, without prior notice, if you:
- Violate these Terms
- Engage in fraudulent or illegal activity
- Abuse the Service or other users
11.3 Effect of Termination
Upon termination:
- Your right to use the Service ceases immediately
- We may delete your User Content
- Provisions that should survive termination will remain in effect
12. Disclaimers
12.1 "As Is" Service
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.
12.2 No Warranty
We do not warrant that:
- The Service will be uninterrupted or error-free
- Results from the Service will be accurate or reliable
- Any errors will be corrected
12.3 Nutritional Disclaimer
Recipe information, including nutritional data, is provided for informational purposes only. We are not responsible for dietary decisions made based on this information. Consult a healthcare professional for dietary advice.
13. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WITHOUT A WORD SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR USE, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.
Our total liability for any claims under these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid us (if any) in the twelve months preceding the claim.
14. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Without A Word, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses arising from:
- Your use of the Service
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any third-party rights
15. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Georgia, USA, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
16. Dispute Resolution
16.1 Informal Resolution
Before filing a claim, you agree to contact us at support@withoutaword.app to attempt informal resolution.
16.2 Court Resolution
Any disputes not resolved informally will be resolved in the courts of Georgia, unless local consumer law grants you other rights.
16.3 Class Action Waiver
You agree to resolve disputes individually and waive the right to participate in class action lawsuits.
17. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms at any time. We will notify you of significant changes by:
- Posting the new Terms on this page
- Updating the "Last Updated" date
- Sending an email notification (for material changes)
Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
18. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
19. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Without A Word regarding the Service.
